The Body Shop: Tea Tree Skin Clearing Clay Mask – Review

Recently I have been eating really unhealthy foods, which has definitely been causing my skin to have some breakouts, so I thought I would take the opportunity to try a new product and then review it for you.

I have used Body Shop stuff before, my mum and I use to go there all the time to buy things, but I haven’t used any of their products in a few years so it was a welcome change to use something new.

I decided to go with this particular product as my skin only had a few spots and blemishes nothing too crazy that would need a more heavy duty product.

What attracted me to the product the most I feel was that it says it is a Clay Mask, and god knows I love a clay mask. The tub also starts states that the mask “Fights the look of imperfections – suitable for blemished skin”

When I first opened the pot I obviously gave the face mask a smell, and most obviously got an overwhelming scent of tea tree, with an undertone of mint. This got me super excited because I love mint and how cooling it is for the skin. (Full list of ingredients can be found at the end of this blog)

After cleansing my face, I applied the face mask over my entire face, using my Body Shop face mask brush, for one a more even distribution and secondly I just personally do not like using my fingers to apply a face mask, its just purely a personal preference. The tub suggests keeping the face mask on for 10-15 minutes so I decided to keep it on for the full time of 15 minutes just to give the face mask time to really work into my skin. While the face mask was on I definitely felt a nice cooling effect on the skin, but it wasn’t drying as much as I would have expected a clay mask to.

After the 15 minutes were up, I began by taking most of the mask off using my Dermalogica Exfoliating Cleanser Brush to work the mask into my pores once last time, then used a warm damp wash cloth to remove the rest of my face gently.

Once the entire face mask was removed I could definitely see that my skin had a nice subtle glow to it, and it also felt very smooth and slightly hydrated. My facial pores, especially around my nose and cheekbone areas looked noticeably clearer also.

Of course, it wouldn’t remove all my blemishes right away, that will only happen with continued use, which is suggest to be 1-2 times a week, but the blemishes I had did seem to be more calmed down than prior to applying the mask.

Though it is a mask that works, does what it is intended to do, my main issue is that its called a clay mask, but is not a clay mask I expected. After using the mask I went online to look at full description and it states online that “Mask does not dry.” However nowhere on the actual product tub is this stated. This is a complete disappointment for me, as the biggest factor in me purchasing it was the illusion that it was a drying face mask, and definitely think that Body Shop should make it more clear on their products as this is technically false advertisement, because not everyone will go online if they are buying in store, cause they would assume that the product container will have all the necessary information.

Overall I rate this mask a 7 out of 10. I would probably use this product again in the future, but it would most definitely not be my go to, nor is it in my favourite skincare products list.
