My 5 Ways to Relax and Combat Stress

Stress. We all experience it. Whether it’s only for a day or for a longer period of time, its something that happens to everyone, and its different triggers for all of us.

I know that for me, I can get stressed super easily. I get stressed about money, work, friends, you name it and I’ve probably been stressed about it at least one, as I can imagine most people reading this have been.

The most important thing is to try and not let the stress take over your life. It’s easier said than done, there is no denying that, but there are definitely steps you can take to help de-stress and relax. So here are my top ways to relax and combat the stress you’re experiencing.

This is actually something that I picked up from the TV show ‘Greys Anatomy’. If you are feeling like pulling your hair out, or just a big ball of stress, stop what you’re doing. Stop now. Put on your favourite song, get up, and dance it out. Whether you dance for 30 seconds or 3 minutes, its definitely one of my favourite ways to de-stress, and it will for sure help you to loosen up and relieve some of the stress and tension you have built up.

Whenever I have a hell of a lot going on, whether it is in my work or personal life, or even both, I can get super overwhelmed. Before I started meditating, I would just lock myself in my room and think about all my issues and stresses. Now what I do is I still lock myself in my room, put on some headphones (preferably noise cancelling) and play something like nature sounds, or anything like that you can find that’s along those lines. I sit there and I focus completely on my breathing. Slowly in and slowly out. Focusing purely on this helps me push all of my stressful thoughts to the back of my mind and calms me down to a very tranquil state.

This is a similar method to meditating, but, if meditating doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, this might be more up your alley. I am particularly fond of using this method when I have had a super long day and/or week at work and my worn out both mentally and physically. In my opinion there is honestly nothing better than coming home after a long day of work and running yourself a nice bath. Sometimes I even combine it with watching a movie on my laptop and having a glass of wine just to make it even more chilled. This method for sure just like helps relax my body from any physical stress its experiencing and also when I focus on my breathing it definitely calms my mind. Something else I like to do while in the bath, which by all means definitely wont be for everyone, is I like to put basically my entire head under the water but keep my nose on above the surface, and from there I can feel my heart beat and I just focus 100% on the rhythm of it and also focus on my breathing, somewhat like meditation, and that really helps me calm and relax me.

This is more a method I use if I have been just so busy with work or just anything that’s meant I’ve not really had a chance to have a social life, it’s just so nice to have a really chilled night in with some friends and some junk food and some trashy movies to help take your mind off all of the stresses of your day to day life and just be surround by nothing but positive vibes and attitudes. It’s not even about the movie you’re watching cause I probably wont even be paying 100% attention to it, but there is just something about having your closest friends around you, putting away your phone to disconnect from the world, and just having good organic chats and catch ups with the closest people in your life.

This method is one I tend to use more if I am going through some major personal struggles and stresses. Going for a jog or to the gym just really helps me to clear my head even if it is only for an hour or two having that time where I am feeling really calm and not really thinking about anything but working out. I definitely prefer to go to the gym/for a jog with someone else, because it motivates me to work harder and also you can talk with the person about anything at all, which again helps to give you something to think about that isn’t your struggles

Do you use any of these methods to help you relax and overcome stress? Do you use any other methods? Comment on this post and let me know!
